When I think of people losing the ability to perform menial and difficult tasks for themselves, I think of the Wicked Witch of the West when she says “I’m melting.”
The old adage of losing what you don’t use is true. Technology is meant to assist, save time, and provide solutions to our existence. It started out as a tool; but like everything that we humans touch, it keeps going and going until it takes the place of instead of working in conjunction with. Anybody ever hear of obsolescence?
For instance, more and more people lose vocabularies and the ability to communicate in a personal or even professional way because autocorrect, grammar check and Grammarly, texting, and AI do all those things for us. It’s great that Grammarly will give you an outline for the topic you want to write so you shorten the research segment, but I can see it coming when you won’t have to write a paper anymore because AI will generate what you want to say without you even saying it – just give it some key words and a general idea.
This is not a shot at AI either. But I don’t want to see the results of not knowing how to cleanse yourself or walk or think without the assistance of technology.
