The fact that voids exist or that we gain scars and wounds is part of the human experience. What to do about these incidences is where problems or solutions come in and affect living or existing.
Putting our heads in the sand does not necessarily mean just totally ignoring the hole, but also focusing on the ideals or suggestions of others to fix what ails you. That’s not to say that an ideal or suggestion has no merit, it’s just not a permanent solution when it is dependent on the ideal or suggestion. The belief in another individual or their beliefs and remedies that require total immersion is an example. Can you say cult, maybe?
Enduring rather than tending to scars and wounds does not show true strength, only an ability to tolerate. This mindset can lead to a higher tolerance so that the problem has the potential of escalating, and you won’t be aware of the danger or get the signals that alert you. I’m thinking of abuse that’s either mental or physical – self-inflicted or meted out by others.
It is up to us to recognize the hole is there, that it needs to be filled or tended to, and that we are the best solution (choice-wise) in filling it or healing correctly.
