“Blindness to possibility is either a blessing or a curse. You choose.” You Like It Darker by Stephen King
Often when people create accommodating versions of life, they discard what is underneath – but the underneath is still there. They also miss what could potentially be brought out. I had mentioned burying your treasures in another post, and this is adding what else is buried.
Even though some may make the effort of hiding who they are, those repressed items do not go away. And sometimes they may reveal themselves in detrimental ways, either to the self or to others. And repression works to disallow good things as well.
Coming to terms with yourself is necessary for peace of mind if nothing else. If what you are coming to terms with is based on what others think or feel, then you are still not forthcoming with yourself. There will never be any peace for you unless and until you meet you and shake hands.
As the quote above mentioned, what could be may be a blessing or a curse. If what you are repressing is harmful to yourself or others, it may be necessary to seek help with finding alternatives to those types of feelings. But if you are suffering from a lack of self-worth and confidence in your abilities, it is time to explore those talents (even if there is no audience and they are for your own satisfaction).
