The crucible is used to melt hard substances so that they are malleable to use for different purposes. It is used for substances that are valuable and more useful if they are made more flexible. Another way to look at assimilation! This is going to be a short post.

When people have refused to conform to the way society has wanted them to be, harsher methods have been used to get them assimilated. Acts that were ratified by the ruling classes and judicial system – lynchings, burnings, and police shootings to name a few. I just recently discovered that Central Park used to be a small part of New York that black people inhabited – until it wasn’t. Other areas have also been obliterated when there was a show of independence (and stopped the dollars from flowing into their pockets).

Today there is gerrymandering and regentrification and revitalization of communities….
