Temperance

Of course the only recourse to gluttony would be temperance – or moderation – because it stems the practice of excessive indulgence. Too many drinks of course have negative consequences, but so do too many cups of coffee. We still tend to eat as if we are farmers (three square meals), when most jobs are sedentary. And even though there are certain foods that are better than others, you can eat just about anything as long as you do so in moderation.

Temperance is not only practiced in maintaining a diet; it is also for anything that is overdone. Even exercise and things that are generally good practice need moderation. In terms of eating, it’s best to fit your diet with your daily activity. The same goes for overspending: you have to fit your shopping habits with your budget. And if you can afford to go overboard, it’s still a good idea to practice not overdoing.

It’s good to remember that too much of anything can be harmful, because that thing can become addictive.
