I Care Cuz …

Why does what another person thinks mean so much to us? Is what they think going to affect your livelihood in some way, or is that even enough to make you care? It’s okay to be conscious of your appearance, but to alter what you want to look like or how you want to live for the sake of someone else’s opinion is perplexing.

I have to admit that when I was young I cared about how people saw me in the sense that I didn’t want to look out of place or unfashionable (for the most part). But as I got older and had to purchase my own things, I cared less and less about what people in the general public thought about what I had or didn’t have for the simple fact that they were not contributing to the household.

This does not deter people, however, from being influenced by what the general public thinks of them, and not just young people. You see it everyday in the fact that more and more people are becoming more plastic and materialistic – from their eyelashes and brows to the home they choose to live in or the car they drive (or even the number of them that they own). This has not only changed finances and ability to remain sustainable, but it has also altered the value placed on things over people.
